Cynthia Buck Brown is a shareholder in Harper, Lambert & Brown, P.A. in Greenville, South Carolina. Cynthia grew up following her Dad as he traveled to large industrial projects all over the United States and Canada. She was fascinated by the large scale projects and loved to watch the progress and the process when her Dad would take her to the construction site, a fun sort of “field trip” that would obviously not be allowed today.
Since Cynthia knew from a young age that she wanted to be a lawyer, construction litigation was a natural fit. She concentrates her practice in the handling of construction-related disputes, primarily representing general contractors, subcontractors and owners. She has participated in complex litigation, numerous arbitrations, as well as many mediations.
Cynthia received a B.A. in History from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas, and her Juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law. While in Law School, Ms. Brown served as Articles Editor for the South Carolina Law Review and was a member of the Moot Court Bar. She is a member of the American Bar Association as well as the South Carolina Bar and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Cynthia is a member of the Construction Sections of the ABA and South Carolina Bar. She is currently a member of the South Carolina Upstate Inn of Court. She is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of Construction Law.
Ms. Brown has previously spoken on topics relating to construction litigation; HUD litigation; engineer’s liability; contract negotiations; electronic records and retention; and dispute resolution. In 2011 Ms. Brown spoke on Arbitration at the CLE “It’s All a Game: Top Trial Lawyers Tackle Civil Procedure” sponsored by the South Carolina Bar Association. She also spoke at a pro bono program “Legal Lessons: A Series for the Public” sponsored by the South Carolina Bar Association.
While Cynthia’s Dad was not all that excited she was determined to be a lawyer, he did give her some advice. Never tell anyone that you are a Defense Attorney – tell them you are an Offense Attorney.
Cynthia and Ric, her husband of 28 years, along with their four children are very happy to call South Carolina home. Her family and extended family is active at Brookwood Church and our entire family makes yearly trips to Haiti visiting the children living in orphanages and helping them learn English.
